Romans 10:12-15
“For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
One of the privileges of being a minister is being entrusted with personal stories about people’s spiritual experiences, stories that sometimes are not shared even with friends, family and spouses. I have been blessed with the confidence of many people, both members of the church and those who have nothing to do with the church and I have come to realize that personal experiences of God’s love, and presence, are far more common than we think. I suspect that most of us can remember a time, or times, when we have felt a presence greater than our own, a presence that we might call ‘God’ or ‘Holy Spirit’ or ‘Christ’ though other people might use other words.
These experiences are powerful, they stay with us and help to shape us into the people we are today. But … we don’t talk about them, so we deprive ourselves of the wonderful gift of sharing our faith and learning about the faith of others. There are many reasons for our reluctance to talk about things that are so personal, but again, we deprive ourselves of a gift.
The presence of God is the presence of love. Sharing stories about love can only be good news, encouragement for all. “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.”
Blessings,
David
